Surfers against sewage brand identity statement

The current poster campaigns from Surfers Against Sewage are mainly focused on the surfers because the campaign is mainly about the sea and waves, which is the surfers main worries. The campaign needs to be a lot more broad and focused on more than just the waves and sea and it should also be focused rivers, lakes and the water quality in other places. The poster campaigns are mostly hand drawn and not very colourful and although the campaigns stand out enough without colour they would stand out even more with colour.

Environmental Charities- World Land Trust Research

World Land Trust is an international conservation charity that takes direct action to help preserve our rain forests. They are associated with many different partners around the world.

This charity doesn't really make its own poster campaigns but it does rely on children to make their campaigns, they do this so that younger people know about the charity

Some examples of poster campaigns:

Target Audience:

The target audience for this charity is everyone but i think it is focused more on children because they promote the charity using poster designs and campaigns made by children. There is a lot of colour and big fonts to catch the eye of other children and people walking past the poster.

Hooking Tech:

This charity uses bright colours, pictures and fonts to attract people to the poster, this is a good idea because more adults will use and read younger children's ideas and poster campaigns.

Brand Identity Statement

This charity has a lot of good ideas on how to advertise a charity, using posters by children to advertise the charity but you could improve this by making some norma posters that are design and created by adults. I think this because even though the children's work is bright and colourful, something that looks more professional could also draw a lot off attention.

Environmental Charities- World Wildlife Fund Research

World Wildlife Fund

The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is an non- governmental charity founded on April 26 1961. It was founded to help and protect the environment. They believe that everybody should live in harmony with nature. They also think that most of the threats to wildlife and habitats are the humans fault increasing demand for food, fuel or water.

Most of the poster campaigns made by the World Wildlife Fund are very informative and are quite colourful, this is good because if it is colourful it will attract more attention so more people will read them.

Some Examples of WWF poster campaigns:

Target Audience:

I think the target audience for all of the WWF campaigns is everyone. I think this because they are colourful and they get their point across. They also use some characters from TV shows and movies to advertise the charity and a lot of people of all ages watch movies and TV so more people will understand the charities.

Hooking Tech:

This charity uses hooking techniques like, bright colours big writing and fonts to draw attention to their campaign, this helps as more people are likely to read it if it is big, colourful and easy to
understand.

Environmental Charities- Surfers Against Sewage Research

Surfers Against Sewage
Surfers Against Sewage is  environmental charity that is focused on protecting the rivers and seas in Great Britain. They deal with the coastal environmental issues England have.  They aim to create some big improvements in the state of our oceans, rivers and beaches

Surfers Against Sewage have created many different campaigns based on trying to persuade people to not to dump their litter into rivers and seas. The campaigns they have made are quite dark and try to emphasise the damage people are doing to the water.

Some examples of surfers against sewage campaigns:

Target Audience:

I think the target audiences for this charity are surfers and people who throw litter into the sea. I think this because they're the people who have the most impact on the pollution in the sea. I think this is for older people because it isn't colourful which can have a big effect on how a child will understand it, if it was more colourful more younger people will see it and get interested.

The Hooking Tech:

The main device that attracts people to the charity are the posters. This is because they stand out. They stand out because they are mostly black and white with hardly any colour and not many charities advertise with very little colour, this is why it could stand out. The posters use a small and traditional font.

Mono-prints

Mono-printing:

I did this by getting some ink and putting it on my page. Secondly I used a roller to roll out the ink so it could cover more of the page. Afterwards I used some newspaper and blotted the ink, I did this to make the ink thinner but I had to be careful not to make the ink too thin. After I used the newspaper I got the photo I wanted and put on top of the paper I will be using to get the print. Finally I used a pen to draw the photo, this made the ink get on the page where I was drawing, this made the print.

This is my first mono-print. This is the worst one I did. I think this because I didn't do my first one fast enough so the ink dried up and made it harder to get the print. The reason it dried so fast is because when I was doing the print the hot weather made it dry faster.

This my second mono-print, I think it is a massive improvement on my first one because I did this one a lot faster than my first one but it is still not very good.

This is my third and final mono-print this is the best one I made. I think this because I used a different image of Winston Churchill. I also think it is the best one I did because of the speed I did it in, I did it faster because by then i knew how to do set up the mono-print and do it.

Charity based campaigns

Surfers against sewage;

Established in 1990 by surfers to help prevent the amount to waste dumped into our seas rivers.
They created a nationwide movement to help improve the water UK-wide, they have changed public attitudes and responses to bathing water.
SAS projects target costal environmental issues

Examples of campaigns;

Save the Rainforest;

The nature conservancy helps to protect & save the rain forests all over world they do this by going to villages and helping them come up with new ways to build and develop without causing too much harm to forest.

Examples of campaigns;

Animal rights;

Animal rights are here to promote and assist the grassroots animal rights movement and any associated events, actions and charity events to support animal rights.

Examples of campaigns;

Children charities;

They support the most neglected, vulnerable and abused children and young people throughout the UK, everything they do is to prevent children in bad conditions.

Examples of campaigns;

Analysis of the visual qualities ;

Both the, Surfers against sewage and the Save the forest campaigns are quite bright and colorful making it better for children to see and understand, both campaigns can use both photography and videos to advertise the campaign, if the campaign is on TV more children will see it and if the campaign is on posters more adults will be able to read the poster so they will understand it more.

The last two campaigns are lot more dark and aren't for children they are for adults because animal and child abuse look more upsetting then the other campaigns so it is not suitable for children. Words written on a poster can't really explain the conditions that some animals/children are in, thats why I think animal/child abuse campaigns should be on TV. The colors are also very different from each other on the first two campaigns they are very colorful and bright but on the last to there isn't much color on them and there aren't as bright.

Andy Warhol Research

Andy Warhol was born August 6, 1928 and he died on February 22, 1987

Andy Warhol started the pop art movement in the 1950s-1960s, he became very popular in the second half of the 20th century.

His Technique:
Andy Warhol found his technique when he was at college, he taped two pieces of paper together, drew something in ink one page and then put the two pieces of paper together.

He most famous for his paintings of soup cans:

He did this because he used to have the same lunch everyday for 20 years and it inspired him to create it.

I like his work as it's very creative but very simple

Hannah Höch Style Collage

This is my Hannah Höch style collage based on the recent floods in England.

Self Assessment:

1) Today i've learnt that Hannah Höch started the Dada art movement.

2) Mixed media is when something is used on different types of media, e.g. TV, Radio, Posters.

3) We've learnt the collage technique

4) I've used different shades and and colours

5) I used an advert with a lot of blue on it, I also used a boat salesmanship page to get the picture of a boat.

Hannah Höck

Hannah Höch was a German Dada artist. She is best known for her work of the Weimar period, when she was one of the originators of photomontage. She started Dada because women back then were not able to do much because men thought that they should stay at home and do nothing.

Hannah Höch didn't agree with this so to show the men this was wrong she started to create collages to show their independence.

Examples of Hannah Höch's Work

In this picture I think she is trying to emphasise that putting on make up and having a good hair cut might not make a women any more beautiful.

I think this picture is trying to prove that society is changing people, and making them put on a fake smile even though inside they're not happy.

Banksy Street Graffiti Analysis

I think this piece of graffiti sends a strong message across because it looks like it is repressing freedom, I think this because the top and the bottom pieces of art show a hole in the wall protecting Palestine. This piece of graffiti is trying to show the opinions and views of the people living there because people might want the wall to fall down. The dove on one of the pieces of graffiti represents peace, I think this because people want their country to get out of war.

I think this piece of graffiti sends a message to the public, I think the message is no matter what you might not be able to accomplish any dreams you have, I think this because there is a big red line over the "follow the your dreams", this shows me people are starting to give up on their dreams.

This piece of graffiti is a statement towards the local government to speed up the production of a local park.  This piece of graffiti is aimed towards local governors and children, this is aimed at kids because it would be the kids that wanted a park instead of a carpark

Aggressive NHS Campaigns

Identify how the NHS creates aggressive advice and information campaigns analysis the hooking techniques used to deliver direct messages to specific audience.

 The message behind this advertising campaign is that drinking too much can cause a sudden weight  gain, I know this because the glasses on the poster  are getting bigger, the more you drink. The target audience is people between the ages of 18 and above, this campaign is not aimed at a certain gender because if it was it would be laid out in a different way. It hooks people by using the images of four glasses.

The message behind this campaign is to say that if somebody was to drink too much at once, something bad could happen like stumbling into traffic or even alcohol poisoning, this campaign is more aimed at women I think this because the women in the poster is the main focus. There is no writing in the campaign and I think this is to get all of the focus on the main image. I also think the image is the poster's hook.

This poster campaign is to show people how drinking too much can effect how fit you are and how tired you get. I think this poster is aimed at men and more specifically aimed at dads. I think this because this can happen everywhere, when dads are too tired to want to play football with their children. The hooks for this campaign are the big, blue writing and the image of the dad and the son looking disappointed behind the dad.

Peer review by kyle champkins 13/3/14

In your last piece of public information work you have identified the 3 different types of campaign and what they're and have gone into good detail to explain and examine what they help create aweness for. the piece of work that shows this is 'This TV advert is here to try and persuade people not to drink too much because it can cause problems like heart disease and cancer, this video shows images like this to tell you what impact alcohol has on the body'. as its giving a clear example on how well you understands this and what you have discovered and progressed on throughout the lesson to increase your knowledge which you can use in later lessons.

Three different types of public information

- Advice and information Campaigns- The NHS use these to spread information about: drinking, the spread of bacteria, etc.

- The message behind this advert is to persuade people to not drink as much as, they do this by saying it will eventually make you heavier if you drink too much. This advert is aimed at people over the age of 18.

- This TV advert is here to try and persuade people not to drink too much because it can cause problems like heart disease and cancer, this video shows images like this to tell you what impact alcohol has on the body. There isn't really any audio that impacts the video.

-

- Direct messaging - Awareness campaigns (charity) - Charities use adverts like this to try and make people feel quite bad which makes them want to give money, many charities use adverts like this.

- The message behind both adverts is to spread information about child abuse and how people's money can help children who are getting abused. This advert is aimed at everyone because people usually give a blind eye to children who are being abused.

- The advert shows really upsetting images to make other people feel bad for them so they want to donate money, the companies who make these adverts use upsetting music to match the music to the images on screen, this makes people want to donate to charities.

- Charity adverts like this one are shown later in the day so that companies can show upsetting images because adults are usually watching TV later, the other reason adverts like this are on in the evening is so the images on screen don't upset a younger audience.

- Uncontious messaging - Propaganda - Propaganda is often used by armies and governments to persuade the people of their countries to do something for them.

- The aim of this poster is to tell people that america could of used nuclear weapons to end the second world war, this propaganda was made in the mid 40's near the end of the second world war.

 - The aim for this TV advert is to try to persuade people around the ages of 18-30 to join the british reserves in Afghanistan, they do this because the demand for soldiers is getting bigger. This advert is aimed at both man and women because they can both join the military.

- Army adverts like this are usually shown on TV during the day because adverts like this don't tend to show upsetting images unlike adverts that are shown later in the evening
